This is the second entry into my digital journal, keeping track of my experience with IM8, the new all-in-one supplement produced by Prenetics in partnership with David Beckham.
In my week 1 entry, I outlined the 8 health markers that IM8 aims to improve and shared my day-by-day experience with the supplement. For this second entry, I’ll keep it brief as I am now in that murky middle phase where my body is getting used to the supplement and adjusting accordingly.
As a reminder, here are the 8 health markers the Daily Ultimate Essentials supplement aims to improve:
- Immunity: improving your immune response and resilience to illness
- Energy: increasing your energy via key vitamins and nutrients
- Renew (cell renewal): support healthy cell renewal with the best ingredients
- Hydrate: support proper hydration with essential electrolytes
- Cardio: support cardiovascular health with ingredients that maintain and support healthy blood vessels and heart function
- Nourish: offer a complete list of ingredients that include a variety of top quality nutrients and benefits
- Digest: provide pre and probiotics
- Cognitive: support healthy cognition with vitamins, minerals and mushrooms that support optimal cognition
This week I took IM8 on the road with their ultra convenient travel sachets, and really put it to the test as I had an eventful overnight flight, a long day of travel, and my body adjusted to a new time zone.
Week 2 Highlights
In week 1 I had experienced some immediate results related to mental focus and my digestion. These have continued into week 2, but were also challenged during my travel days.
In a very weird and unexpected turn of events, I was physically ill on my flight to Portugal. I have never been someone who gets motion sickness or is affected by the change in altitude, but this flight was different.
I think it was an anxiety response after having a scary experience on another flight back in February, but regardless, it was weird to be sick on a plane. Thankfully, it was just the one time and I immediately felt better, but I proceeded to have a very poor sleep on the plane.
In a funny way, all of these uncomfortable experiences made me more excited to take my IM8 when we landed. if my stomach was off, I knew IM8 had the pre-and-probiotics that would help settle it.
I also know that by taking it in the morning on Portugal time would help with resetting my internal clock since I had been training my body to anticipate these supplement in the morning.
Was IM8 the cure for jet lag? No, but I do believe that it’s been helpful to have it with me so that when I wake up, I am up and ready to go with a good amount of energy.
My digestion always take a couple days to get sorted in a new place. The combination of different water filter systems and food just takes me some time to adjust to.
In the past I’ve gone 48hrs without a bowel movement, leaving me feeling bloated and uncomfortable as I try to get settled in a new city. But I can gladly say that has no been the case this time.
Although I am not on a morning and evening type of schedule, I have not had any issues going #2 and I would like to give some credit to IM8 for supporting that.
I will be spending the majority of week 3 in Portugal, but will finish the week back in Montreal, so I’m eager to see how IM8 impacts traveling back in time and the adjustments that need to made there.
Week 2 in Review: The 8 of IM8
I think it’s been good to test the supplement under imperfect conditions. From week 1 where I tested the supplement against a hangover and lack of sleep, to this week, testing it in a new timezone and all the impacts that has on the body, I like to think I am going to have a very clear understanding of the benefits and potential shortcoming of IM8 when this test is done.
At the halfway point, here’s how I rank each of the 8 health markers:
- Immunity – 7/8: With all of the changes and stress I have subjected my body to in this last week, I am happy to say that I still feel great. I have a feeling this will stay at 7/8 because I don’t know how well IM8 works when I am feeling sick. This may be counterintuitive approach to rating this, but in my mind, IM8 only gets a perfect score if it can shorten a cold, for example.
- Energy – 5/8: Putting IM8 to the test in a new timezone really put this particular health marker to the test. It is an improvement from last week because I do feel like my energy levels haven’t leveled out since I arrived in Portugal and we are now on day 4 of being here.
- Renew – 6/8: Maybe it’s the Portugese sunshine, but my skin has been very clear this since starting IM8, with the exception of a few very small blemishes. The tone of my skin in uneven, but I am not sure I can confidently link this back to IM8.
- Hydrate – 8/8: Hydration continues to be a quick win for IM8. All signs from my body say that I am well hydrated.
- Cardio – 6/8: As expected, my resting heart rate has been a little all over the place as I adjust to the new timezone, but it has also recovered quickly. Since Sunday, my resting heart rate went from 66bpm down to 62. My heart rate variability has also seen a major improvement since Sunday, going from 49 (less resilient to stress) to 67 (moderately resilient to stress). I think a multiple of factors have played into this, but I feel good giving IM8 some credit for this.
- Nourish – 8/8: Still very happy with the level of nourishment from IM8. As I mentioned earlier in this article, it takes my body some time to adjust to new places because of how water supply and food supply can differ from city to city/country to country. It’s been comforting to know that IM8 has been the constant throughout it all.
- Digest – 7/8: As I said, I was able to avoid the 48hr bloat that I typically experience when I travel, and that’s been the best feeling. Not having to worry about this, or dread bathroom trips, or stress about whether there will be an emergency bathroom situation while I’m touring around has been such a gift.
- Cognitive – 6/8: This was another steep hill for IM8 to climb this week because my circadian rhythm has been thrown off by my travels to Portugal. I should also note that when I arrived, Portugal was 4 hours ahead of Montreal, but this was their weekend to turn the clocks forward. So it’s been a little extra challenging to get myself onto their timezone, however, I have felt relatively clear headed and focused since I’ve been here.
Week 1 average rating: 6.63/8: My overall IM8 experience continues to be positive. Hydration and nourishment remain standout benefits, providing stability amidst travel adjustments. Digestion and cardio health have also shown improvements, helping ease typical travel-related discomforts. While energy and cognitive function were challenged by a major timezone shift, IM8 has supported resilience, and immunity remains strong. Excited to see how it continues to perform in the weeks ahead!
